Abstract: |
While empowering parents is a significant priority for professionals and parent support organization, the ultimate outcome is empowered children. Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing live with the challenges daily. Ultimately they need to gain confidence and the ability to advocate for themselves. This is a gradual process that requires parents to actively give children the tools and information that they need to manage their environment, the technology, to ask questions and effectively advocate for themselves. Professionals can also play a supportive role in the increasing transfer of information and power. The presentation will include a thought provoking discussion of how you can take active steps to empower yourself and your child. |
