Name: Sandra Gabbard

Sandra Gabbard, PhD is the Co-Director of the Marion Downs Hearing Center and the Director of Audiology at the University of Colorado Hospital. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and adjunct faculty in the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She has been providing a wide range of clinical audiological services at The University of Colorado Hospital for over 25 years. She has published and presented extensively in pediatric audiology including the areas of newborn hearing screening, assessment procedures, and fitting and verification of hearing aids and FM systems. She is a member of the Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Board, the Coordinator of the Colorado Pediatric Assessment and Amplification Task Force, past President of the Colorado Academy of Audiology and serves on the Board of Directors of the HEAR Project.

Name: Nanette Thompson
Affiliation:
Nanette Thompson is a speech-language pathologist and certified auditory-verbal therapist. She has a Masters in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas and has specialized in working with deaf and hard of hearing children for 15 years.
She works with the Colorado Home Intervention Program, as a facilitator and as an Oral Communication Consultant. She joins other professionals on home visits and brainstorms next steps and effective strategies in the areas of auditory skill development, language expansion, and speech production. She is also a consultant for the University of Colorado Hospital and the Marion Downs Hearing Center where she works with the cochlear implant team providing direct services weekly to families and children. In addition, she works with the Colorado Department of Education as Coordinator of the Cochlear Implant Support Team.

Name: Dinah Beams

Dinah Beams is the Lead Colorado Hearing Resource (CO-Hear) Coordinator with the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind. Responsibilities in this position include coordinating services for families with newly-identified children; hiring and training providers; supervision; curriculum and program development; and system building. Previous experience includes: working as an Outreach Specialist for Beginnings for Parents of Children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Raleigh, North Carolina and as both a classroom teacher and an itinerant teacher in Colorado. Dinah is the author of the CHIP Parent Manual and the Curriculum for Sign Language Instructors, and co-developer of materials for the Integrated Reading Project (IRP), part of Colorado’s Early Literacy Development Initiative for young children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Dinah has a M.A. from the University of Colorado and a B.S. from Southern Methodist University. She has presented frequently at state, national, and international conferences.

Abstract: |
Through collaboration across agencies and organizations, Colorado's EHDI systems have piloted ways to provide support for quality early intervention services for children and families living in more rural, difficult to access areas. This presentation will share information on the implementation and utilization of tele-health, as well as web cam technology to train, mentor, and support early intervention providers as well as using the technology to provide a model for direct service to these families. Outcomes and program satisfaction information will be shared. Challenges and solutions to providing services will be shared that are both high tech and low tech. |
