Abstract:

Working with medically fragile infants and young children can pose challenges to audiologists, parents, and early intervention providers when trying to meet the National “1-3-6” EHDI Goals, particularly when infants are born extremely premature. This session will highlight some of the challenges faced with medically fragile or premature infants with hearing loss and their families. Case studies will be used to highlight some of the differences that arise when working with term versus premature infants. Terminology and acronyms common to working with NICU infants will be shared with regard to their potential impact on the auditory status of infants and young children.
