Title: Deaf-Hearing Partnerships: We’re in This Together
Primary Track: 1-EHDI Program Enhancement
Keyword(s):

Abstract:

The purpose of EHDI systems is to identify deaf and hard of hearing babies, provide them and their families with services and support, and give them a good start in life. But too often the expertise of people who know the most about the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people – deaf and hard of hearing people themselves – is not included or valued in EHDI systems. This workshop will discuss the need to include deaf and hard of hearing adults in all aspects of EHDI. It will review positive and negative perceptions of being deaf. And it will provide suggestions for including deaf and hard of hearing individuals in your program. The presenters – one deaf and one hearing – are parents of deaf children and have collaborated on many projects over the years.
