Abstract:

One of our big challenges in meeting the goal of screening the hearing of all newborns has been reaching the 'out of hospital' birth population. To address this challenge the Utah EHDI program developed the “Homebirth Hearing Project”. This project provides, with the help of federal grants, equipment and training to selected midwives throughout the state. Test results and hearing status are reported to the State EHDI office monthly. Since beginning this project reported screenings in this population have increased from 10% to approximately 55% and continue to improve. This presentation will share the evolution of this project.
