Title: 'It Takes a State (and a Long Time) to Complete a Guideline' Track: 2-Audiological Assessment and Intervention Audience: Primary Audience: Secondary Audience: Tertiary Audeince: Keyword(s): Pediatric, Audiology, Diagnostic Center, Lost to Follow Up, Best Practice Learning Objectives: 1. Consider how the state demographics and other variables may influence criteria to designate pediatric diagnostic centers in their states. 2. Apply use of electronic survey tools, such as Survey Monkey, to solicit comments from a wide range of stakeholders across a state. 3. Identify potential barriers and possible solutions to acceptance of Best Practice Guidelines. Abstract: The Michigan EHDI program first established a list of rescreen and diagnostic centers for statewide use in 2003. At that time, the list was derived from survey responses which focused primarily on the types of equipment (ABR, OAE) available in each setting. The Michigan EHDI advisory board recommended that this list be updated to include criteria beyond equipment. At last year’s conference, the initial steps of this process were discussed. During this presentation, the final guidelines will be shared along with responses from a public comment survey collected prior to the final draft being adopted. Handouts: Handout is not Available

PRESENTER(S): Angelique Boerst - University of Michigan Medical Center      Credentials: MA, CCC-A       Angelique Boerst is an audiologist at C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital within the University of Michigan Medical Center. In addition to completing hearing assessments of children, she has been a team member of the Sound Support Program which provides outreach and support services to families of children who are deaf/hard of hearing. Michelle Garcia - MDCH/EHDI      Credentials: Au.D.       Michelle Garcia is a licensed audiologist. She obtained her doctorate of audiology from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and has experience as a clinical audiologist and expertise in newborn hearing screening as follow-up consultant for the Michigan EHDI program.
