Abstract:

Qualified and skilled audiologists who can work with the infant population, especially those who fail their newborn hearing screen, continues to be an issue. The National Center for Hearing Assessment & Management (NCHAM) has been providing Pediatric Audiology, Diagnostic and Management of Hearing Loss, Workshops since 2002. Theses workshops are geared toward enhancing the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct the follow-up evaluations for those infants who do not pass the hearing screening. They are unique in building skills as they offer hands on experiences to complement the readings and lectures. In the fall of 2010, the American Board of Audiology (ABA) announced a new certification for Pediatric Audiology. NCHAM is in the process of developing an updated online education module of our well-received Audiological Diagnostic Workshop to provide a broader range of outreach to audiologists seeking the ABA Pediatric Certification. This session will discuss the next steps NCHAM is taking for this endeavor.
