Abstract: |
We (the Michigan Co Chapter Champion for the AAP and a nursing discharge coordinator) participated in multiple activities to support EDHI goals in mid Michigan. We 'tried everything'. We made Office visits to all pediatric practices and larger family practice groups. Using a presentation developed by the State EDHI staff we presented the goals and follow up recommendations. We met with neonatologists, NNP's and nursing administration to correct reporting problems with hearing screening and assure AABR's were being done. We contacted the developmental assessment clinic to have in place a process to make sure hearing screening was addressed at visits. We developed a letter for the term nursery and RNICU so that all parents received consistent information. We partnered with our local Pediatric Audiology Group, so that babies who did not follow up by 4 weeks were contacted. These and other changes have resulted in a marked improvement in our lost to follow up rate. At a state level we have participated in Hospital visits to help other institutions identify areas for improvement and our local experience has been useful to them. |
