Abstract: |
Due to the financial situation in Kansas, it has been challenging to gain the financial support necessary to implement a statewide system for supporting the early intervention networks in providing comprehensive, unbiased services for children who are deaf/hard of hearing. A dedicated group of people spent many years developing a comprehensive plan, but even a five-year phase-in plan has proven challenging to implement. In the meantime, children who are deaf/hard of hearing are still in need of the key pieces that lead to success such as qualified, knowledgeable professionals, access to services, and access to comprehensive, unbiased information. A dedicated advisory board in conjunction with a member of the outreach team at the Kansas School for the Deaf has found ways to support families and service providers with limited financial support. This session will share strategies for supporting families and service providers, challenges and successes in building capacity for service providers, and the collaborative relationships that have supported this process. |
