Abstract:

Family Matters! was a one-day workshop developed for families organized through collaboration between the Michigan EHDI and Sound Support Programs. Sound Support is a grant funded outreach program focused on improving outcomes for children who are deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) at the University of Michigan Medical Center. The workshop consisted of presentations for parents focused on advocacy, literacy and self-empowerment. Children of all ages who are D/HH along with their siblings also participated in the workshop through a series of fun and educational activities. This session will review the steps taken in planning this meeting, the benefits of collaboration and lessons learned along the way.
