ABSTRACT INFORMATION
Title: 'Family Matters! A One Day Family Workshop Organized Through Collaboration.' Track: 7 - Family Perspectives and Support Keyword(s): family workshop collaboration Learning Objectives: Discuss the benefits of collaboration between a state EHDI program and a diagnostic facility when planning a family-focused workshop. Describe the steps required to organize and host a family workshop List the benefits reported by families who attended the workshop. Abstract: Family Matters! was a one-day workshop developed for families organized through collaboration between the Michigan EHDI and Sound Support Programs. Sound Support is a grant funded outreach program focused on improving outcomes for children who are deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) at the University of Michigan Medical Center. The workshop consisted of presentations for parents focused on advocacy, literacy and self-empowerment. Children of all ages who are D/HH along with their siblings also participated in the workshop through a series of fun and educational activities. This session will review the steps taken in planning this meeting, the benefits of collaboration and lessons learned along the way. Angelique Boerst - Primary Presenter University of Michigan Medical Center      Credentials: MA, CCC-A       Angelique Boerst is an audiologist at C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital within the University of Michigan Medical Center. In addition to providing insights as the parent of a child with hearing loss, she also coordinates the Guide By Your Side(TM) Program for Michigan Hands & Voices(TM).
