ABSTRACT INFORMATION
Title: 'Incorporating a Data Committee into State EHDI Systems' Track: 9 - Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement Keyword(s): Evaluation, Data, Quality Improvement Learning Objectives: Describe how a data committee can assist in evaluating EHDI programs List at least three ways to utilize a data committee in EHDI programs Describe the advantages of incorporating a data committee into EHDI state systems Abstract: High quality data collection and effective utilization of that data to drive program evaluation, continuous quality improvement and planning are essential for Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs. On a national level, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides support for an EHDI Data Committee consisting of representatives from State and Territorial EHDI programs. North Carolina has established an EHDI data committee, following that CDC model, which includes system partners. Our state EHDI system data committee is made up of representatives from the NC EHDI program staff and other key stakeholders. This committee is used to provide: 1) maintenance of a comprehensive list of EHDI data items and clear/concise definitions of each data item; 2) education regarding the appropriate use of data; 3) creation/maintenance of a data request form/process; 4) monitoring all grant related data deliverables; 5) defining new data reports desired by program and stakeholders; and 6) prioritization of data reports. The committee structure reduces duplication and allows system partners to have a key role in program evaluation and quality improvement projects for the EHDI program. She has worked with the NC EHDI program for 12 years.
