ABSTRACT INFORMATION
Title: 'Up-Close and Online: A Parent and Professional Deaf and Hard of Hearing Resource Discussion' Track: 7 - Family Perspectives and Support Keyword(s): online, family resources, infant/toddler, preschool Learning Objectives: Recall current comprehensive resources and entice families to explore them. Produce an EHDI territory specific online bulletin board to accumulate resources relevant to families of children with hearing concerns and the professionals who work with them. Discuss resources that are highlighted during the session and on the PA online bulletin board that may not be broadly known. Abstract: Resources related to deafness and hearing loss must be shared with families and the professionals who work with them in a format that is both useful and user friendly in today’s technologically advancing society. Many resources are available on the web, however, it is difficult for families and early intervention providers to look at lists of website links and determine which site will contain valuable and relevant information. Resources need to be easily accessible through a multitude of devices in a visually appealing format that can be accessed quickly when information is needed. Resources also need to be current, comprehensive, and entice users to explore them. In Pennsylvania a free application was utilized to create an online bulletin board to accumulate resources relevant to families of children with hearing concerns and the professionals who work with them. This application allows public contribution of resources such as images, videos, documents and links while remaining moderated so that all contributions are approved prior to addition. This tool is web-based, and has free apps available for both Android and iOS. Other states can view this online bulletin board through a web link and then create their own state specific bulletin board in the same free format. The goal of this session is to share an effective free tool to create state and territory specific online bulletin boards by proving access to the tool that we have already created in Pennsylvania. She is the parent of four children, the youngest of whom has hearing loss. Anne joined the Pennsylvania EHDI program in August 2011 as the Program Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of Health funded family support program, Hands & Voices Guide by Your Side of Pennsylvania. Anne is also a consultant for Early Intervention Technical Assistance on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Initiative and Deaf-Blind Initiative. She has attended the National Early Hearing Detection and Intervention meeting as the Pennsylvania Parent representative in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and received the Pennsylvania Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Award for Distinguished Service. Art Florio - Co-Presenter Pennsylvania Department of Health      Credentials: BA       Arthur Florio is currently a Public Health Program Administrator in the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Division of Newborn Screening and Genetics. He has served as the PA EHDI program administrator for 13 years and manages reporting of newborn hearing screening results by birth hospitals, reporting of diagnostic results by audiologists and the out-of-hospital births newborn hearing screening program.
