Abstract: |
In 2015, Michigan Medicaid Outreach and EHDI started a project to develop and build the bridge between the Michigan EHDI providers that use HL7 and the EHDI data system. With a large percentage of the births in Michigan covered by Medicaid, the receipt of EHDI test screening results in a near Real-Time fashion from the state’s birthing hospitals will assist with the agency goal of improving beneficiary patient health and reducing patient health care costs through early detection. The hearing screening results are currently entered into most hospital EHR systems, and many hospitals have already established their connection to the Michigan Health Information Exchange (HIE) platform. The development of an electronic message that can transmit EHDI test results via the Michigan HIE platform from the hospital EHRs to MDHHS will reduce significantly the burden on hospitals and risk for error by eliminating the need for hospitals to report the hearing results on paper forms to EHDI. This presentation will focus on the stakeholders that are involved, the projects steps, and what the future holds will be addressed during the presentation. |
