Title: 'Report of Experience from a Deaf Pediatrician Working with Families in a Deaf Medical Home ' Track: 5 - Medical Home Keyword(s): Pediatrician ASL Medical Home Learning Objectives: Relate to the insights offered from a pediatrician with hearing loss Integrate strategies for early childhood development and decision-making from a pediatrician with hearing loss Describe the differences between four permutations of hearing-deaf parent-child dyads Abstract: Dr. Robert Nutt is a pediatrician (Rochester, New York) who cares for families in both a primary pediatrics clinic and a developmental-behavioral pediatrics specialty clinic. Dr. Nutt’s lifelong experience with bilateral hearing loss has made him a role model for his patients with hearing loss and their families. Dr. Nutt’s proficiency in spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) allow him to connect in unique ways with families and children. Dr. Nutt will describe the differences between four permutations of parent-child dyads (Hearing/Deaf parents, Hearing/Deaf child). This session will provide unique insight into the complexities faced by parents and professionals providing primary care for families affected by hearing loss with an emphasis on interdisciplinary, child-centered decision making. Nutt - POC,Primary Presenter,Author University of Rochester      Credentials: MD      Other Affiliations: Division of Neurodevelopmental & Behavioral Pediatrics       Robert Nutt graduated from Dartmouth College and received his medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine (Dartmouth). He served on the Newborn Hearing Screening Task Force for New Hampshire, charged with implementing universal newborn hearing screening in that state. Dr. Nutt completed his pediatric residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center, and is completing his specialty training in Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Nutt is director of the Deaf Health Pathway at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He developed an ambulatory pediatric clinic for families who communicate using American Sign Language as part of the Patient-Centered Medical Home. His overall research aims to reduce health disparities in underserved or socially vulnerable populations, such as those who are deaf or hard of hearing. His specialty-specific goal is to better understand the interactions between deafness and developmental disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.       ASHA DISCLOSURE: Financial - Nonfinancial -
