Abstract: |
Each year, more than 7,000 children are born with either cleft lip and/ or palate in isolation, while Pierre-Robin Sequence stands as the most anatomic deviation associated with a non-isolated cleft. In addition, the incidence of craniofacial anomalies other than cleft lip and/or palate occurs in approximately one in every 1600 births. Children born with craniofacial anomalies are at an increased risk for hearing loss making the audiologic monitoring and management of these children critical during the early years of life. This presentation will examine current audiologic guidelines and practices along with implications for early identification and management of infants born with craniofacial anomalies and hearing loss. Through a change in protocol and increased visibility in the audiologic role on a multidisciplinary craniofacial team, a systematic improvement allotted opportunities to enhance EHDI implementation for the high-risk population of children born with craniofacial anomalies. Discussion will also reflect current audiologic data and management of children diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence treated at the University of Chicago Medicine. |
