Abstract:

The Marion Downs Hearing Center at the University of Colorado participates in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopment and Related Disabilities (LEND) program supported by federally funding through HRSA's Maternal Child Health Bureau. The program has a unique goal to support audiology services in underserved rural areas by providing training to currently practicing audiologists in rural areas. There is a clear need to increase the number of audiologists in Colorado with an expertise to support services for infants and children. Infants who fail the newborn hearing screening process are not receiving consistent follow-up from screening. The Colorado LEND program has the goal to recruit 3 audiologists in rural practices who have a current Colorado Audiology License and a minimum of 2 years post masters/doctoral (MA, AuD or PhD) clinical experience in the field of audiology. The audiologists have demonstrated the capacity to provide diagnostic evaluation for infants and children regardless of race or ethnicity and are willing to provide diagnostic evaluations for infants and children who are on public health insurance. This presentation will present the plan and current progress of the on-site and tele-health components of this training program.
