ABSTRACT INFORMATION
Title: 'Intervention Options: Informed Parents Rely on Informed Professionals ' Track: 8 - EHDI Workforce Issues Keyword(s): Listening; language; best practices; family-centered support; neurological auditory development Learning Objectives: 1. List at least three evidence-based features of neurological auditory development during the first years of life. 2. Describe the role of the auditory feedback loop in spoken language development. 3. Identify at least three best practices in stimulating spoken language acquisition. 4. Locate at least three reliable websites and/or resources that provide information to parents on listening and spoken language interventions for infants and young children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Abstract: EHDI professionals are often the called upon to provide information and guidance to families as they review the full range of intervention choices in order to determine how to meet the needs of their child. Professionals ensure the accuracy of the information they provide by continually staying up-to-date in their understanding of communication options and intervention approaches. This presentation provides an overview of evidence-based practices specific to the foundation and practice of developing spoken language through listening. Information will be presented on neurological aspects of auditory development; best practice models for intervention and family-centered support; and identification of accurate resources for families to learn more about listening and spoken language for infants and young children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
