Title: 'A Day in the Life of a Pediatric Audiologist: A Round-Table Discussion' Track: 2 - Audiological Services Keyword(s): discussion, pediatric challenging cases Learning Objectives: Present history and audiological information that protects the identity of the child. Obtain ideas for use with patients in the clinical setting. Collaborate with peers by respectfully listening and participating in round-table discussion. Abstract: Pediatric audiologists are often employed in settings that allow them the privilege of working with children at all levels of development, with many unique features and needs. The pediatric audiologist also understands that each child is different, and similar audiological findings between children can often cause very different listening and hearing difficulties in each child. The purpose of this break-out session is to give pediatric audiologists the opportunity to come together with peers to discuss their most challenging cases. The presenters will begin the round-table discussion by presenting several cases from the state of Oklahoma, and then facilitate discussion among attendees to the session. Attendees are encouraged to participate and provide non-identifying information that provides background, test results, and care plans for their own cases. Attendees of this break-out sessions will: • Present history and audiological findings in a format that protects the identity of the child. • Obtain ideas for use with patients in the clinical setting. • Collaborate with peers by respectfully listening and participating in round-table discussion. This break-out session will highlight the unique skills of pediatric audiologists. The round-table discussion will encourage attendees to brainstorm with other professionals for ideas and tips that would be beneficial any day in the life of the pediatric audiologist. Meredith Gatzemeyer - Primary Presenter Oklahoma State Department of Health/SoonerStart      Credentials: Au.D., CCC/A       Meredith Gatzemeyer, Au.D., CCC-A is a pediatric audiologist with SoonerStart, Oklahoma’s early intervention program. Meredith has over 13 years of experience working with pediatrics in a variety of settings, and enjoys the family-centered services provided through SoonerStart. Meredith earned her Master of Communication Disorders at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and her Au.D. at Arizona School of Health Sciences.       ASHA DISCLOSURE: Financial - Nonfinancial - Joan Burns - Co-Presenter OSDH      Credentials: M.A., CCC/A       Joan Burns, M.A., CCC-A is a pediatric audiologist serving several rural counties in northeast Oklahoma. She has over 30 years experience as an audiologist and really enjoys working with children and their parents. She is the Follow-up/Audiology Coordinator for Oklahoma's Newborn Hearing Screening Program. She co-facilitates the Oklahoma Audiology Taskforce (OKAT) and facilitates the Protocols subcommittee of OKAT       ASHA DISCLOSURE: Financial - Nonfinancial - Mary Ellen Finerty - Co-Presenter OSDH      Credentials: M.A., CCC/A       Mary Ellen Finerty, M.A., CCC-A is a pediatric Audiologist at the Muskogee County Health department in Muskogee Oklahoma. She has worked at the Health Department for 26 years providing a full range of pediatric audiological testing including diagnostic ABR, pediatric hearing aid fittings, management and follow-up.       ASHA DISCLOSURE: Financial - Nonfinancial - Casey Newman - Co-Presenter TCCHD      Credentials: Au.D., CCC/A       Casey is a pediatric audiologist at the Tulsa City/County Health Department. Casey provides diagnostic testing and hearing aid services, as well as newborn hearing screening services. TCCHD provides NBHS services in both English and Spanish.
