Improving audiology evaluation reports for parents and early interventionists

Correctly diagnosing children with hearing loss, and effectively communicating the diagnosis and “next steps” to parents and early interventionists is crucial for the success of a child’s development. The Wyoming EHDI Program has worked to develop a system to review and provide feedback on diagnostic evaluation reports and has developed, based on the feedback, an evaluation report template. This process and report template, developed out of the P-D-S-A process, is designed to insure parents and early interventionists have needed information and “next steps“ as provided in a usable audiology report. In the presentation we will discuss: a) the use of the template and process; b) the development of the template and review process; c) how we worked with audiologists to begin using the template; and d) the data results from end users.

  • Identify how P-D-S-A cycles and data collection can be used to improve program outcomes.
  • Identify steps to improve quality of reports/communications to parents.
  • Develop systems, review processes, and analyze data to help identify gaps and solutions.
