THE ANTONIA BRANCIA MAXON AWARD FOR EHDI EXCELLENCE
The 2019 Antonia Brancia Maxon Award for EHDI Excellence will be presented at the 2019 National EHDI Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. This award honors the life and work of Dr. Antonia Brancia Maxon to promote effective Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs for all newborns, infants, and young children. Dr. Maxon was a pioneer in EHDI programs, beginning with her leadership in the Rhode Island Hearing Assessment Project in the late 1980's. She was one of the first to recognize the feasibility and value of universal newborn hearing screening and was a tireless advocate for connecting screening programs with timely and appropriate diagnosis and early intervention.
Her extensive contributions to creating excellent EHDI programs were abruptly ended by a tragic automobile accident in May of 2007. In memory of her contributions, an Award for EHDI Excellence is presented each year at the National EHDI Meeting to honor an individual who has made outstanding contributions to achieving excellence in EHDI programs nationally or in a particular state or region.

Lori Ruth
I am nominating Lori Ruth for the 2019 Antonia Brancia Maxon Award for EHDI Excellence. Lori has worked for the Parent Infant Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing under Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind. She has been a parent advisor to the program for 8 years. Lori has shown initiative by seeking out referred children that have not received early intervention services. She played a key role in the EHDI Program when it comes to early intervention. Lori makes sure that these children are enrolled in Early Intervention programs and the Parent Infant Program. She tracks down babies that are lost to follow-up. Lori reaches out to audiologists and families to ensure they do not lose any children. She continuously works with audiologists and ENTs to ensure that referrals are being made appropriately. She digs in to find out what the roadblocks are to services and how she can help. Lori has been an active member of the Newborn Hearing Screening Advisory Committee for the past years. She was an essential voice for the Parent Infant Program at these meetings. She developed relationships with multiple individuals in the Department of Health to better serve our families' needs. Lori truly cares about the families she serves and does everything she can to ensure that they are receiving the best care. She wants families to have the best experience and feel supported.
