Interprofessional Preparation of Early Interventionists: Scholar Perspectives

This poster presentation provides an overview of student perspectives from a federally funded project, Interdisciplinary Preparation of Teachers of the Deaf and Speech-Language Pathologists to Provide Early Intervention Services to Young Children Who Are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Their Families (IPEI) (H325K170008). This project was designed to increase the number of qualified teachers of the deaf and speech-language pathologists prepared, through interprofessional practices, to provide family-centered early intervention to children who are deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) and their families. IPEI scholars’ experiences in interdisciplinary preparation, including program requirements, benefits, coursework, practicum placement, competencies, and career development will be presented as a model of interprofessional practice.

  • Participants will explain the importance of interdisciplinary preparation of teachers of the deaf and speech-language pathologists in effectively serving children who are deaf/hard of hearing and their families.
