 The Status of Early Intervention with Deaf Babies in Saudi Arabia

A qualitative study of the status of early intervention with deaf babies in Saudi Arabia. Study is done by cross analyzing recent research articles and interviews with key researchers and government staff, and comparative analysis with the United States system of early hearing detection and intervention. Questions addressed include: How does early hearing detection and intervention work and look like as applied to Deaf babies in Saudi Arabia? 1) Does the process prevent language deprivation? 2) Does the system pay attention to mental health of families? 3) What is the impact of having a recently established education system in the country?

  • Participants will learn more about the limitations in the early hearing detection and intervention system and its history in Saudi Arabia
  • People will understand more about the differences between Saudi Arabia and the United States due to history, society, and timeline of development
  • Participants will be able to identify the recent developments and university partners in early intervention in Saudi Arabia
