Shannon Wnek
Shannon Wnek is an ideal nominee for the 2021 Antonia Brancia Maxon Award for EHDI Excellence. Ms. Wnek helped created a survey for the needs of Utah's early intervention agencies. Using the information, Ms. Wnek helped identify the need for a hearing screening best practice procedure for the early intervention agencies. This procedure was explained to all of the early intervention directors and also included reporting hearing results to EHDI.
Ms. Wnek also works closely with Utah's pediatric audiologists. They identified a concern with the follow-up of children with fluctuating hearing loss. Ms. Wnek brought the Pediatric Audiologist Workgroup and Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind Parent Infant Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing together to address the needs of these children. Using their feedback, Ms. Wnek created a flow chart for audiologists, early intervention specialist for the deaf, and parents to follow after the child is diagnosed with a fluctuating hearing loss.
Ms Wnek is a huge support to Utah's pediatric audiologists, Parent Infant Program, and EHDI. Please consider her for this award.
