Award Winner/Nominee Details 2025
Robyn Miller
We would like to nominate Dr. Robyn Miller for the Antonia Brancia Maxon Award for EHDI Excellence. Dr. Miller is an educational audiologist who has been an integral part of the Montgomery County Infants and Toddlers Program (MCITP) Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (DHOH) team in Montgomery County, MD. Additionally, she is the educational audiologist for Montgomery County Public Schools Itinerant Teachers of the Deaf, providing services for over 400 DHOH students including reviewing audiological reports, attending IEP meetings, and managing amplification. She has expert knowledge of IDEA, including the services and accommodations needed to access curriculum when transitioning from Part C to Part B programs.
In her role with MCITP, she consistently goes above and beyond. She coordinates regularly with the state to keep track of all newly identified babies that are referred to MCITP and ensures that no families fall through the cracks. She keeps a running record and follows up with providers and local audiologists to ensure that 1-3-6 is met as often as is possible, or at the very least, that appointments are scheduled in a timely manner. She provides a yearly audiology workshop for MCITP DHOH families and faithfully attends our monthly parent education programs to ensure that she is accessible to them.
Dr. Miller sat on the MD EHDI advisory council for two terms, including a term as Vice Chair and Council Chair. As Chair, she addressed the annual state stakeholders meeting. During her EHDI tenure, she assisted with facilitating additional newborn hearing screening clinics to alleviate the backup that occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This helped families access screenings when the wait might otherwise have been months. Dr. Miller also works closely with hospitals and clinics in our area to navigate complex insurance issues for children who received Medical Assistance.
Most recently, she helped two local clinics create a flow sheet for care between Kaiser Permanente and Children’s National Medical Center. She demonstrates kindness and compassion for all families and consistently goes out of her way to make sure families can access resources necessary for success. Dr. Miller also does newborn hearing screenings at a local hospital. She stays current with the latest technology and is always able to assist and troubleshoot as needed. Communication is a priority for her, and she does her best to establish a relationship and open lines of communication with families, whether they speak English or another language.
