Auditory-Verbal Therapy; Partnership for Parent and Therapist

The focus of a certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist is to guide and coach parents to become the primary facilitators of the child’s development of spoken language utilizing the principles of Auditory-Verbal Therapy. Parents and Auditory-Verbal Therapists may spend several years working together, maximizing the child's auditory learning abilities, language interaction, social skills, and refining the speech of the child through lessons and activities performed at the center and at home. A strong parent/professional relationship is critical. This presentation will offer successful strategies, tools and resources to promote strong and lasting partnerships between therapists and parents over the course of their regular sessions. Using examples from their own shared experience, the presenters will showcase some of their best practices and provide the audience with concrete suggestions for how to implement this model in their own home or practice.

  • Attendees will: 1. understand the focus of Auditory-Verbal Therapy and parent guidance 2. understand how to involve the parent as an integral partner in the therapy process 3. learn how this relationship facilitates the child learning to listen, develop spoken language, and social skills 4. learn what strategies work well and what resources are available for parents
