Intro to Hands & Voices Programs

Hands & Voices is known organizationally for their parent to parent support for families who have children who are deaf or hard of hearing. This support happens everyday across all the Chapters of Hands & Voices. Hands & Voices offers the local Chapters two formalized training programs that include; Guide By Your Side (GBYS - a parent to parent support program) and Advocacy, Support, and Training (ASTra - an educational Advocacy program). This session will discuss the foundational values, program goals, training components, and program evaluation of each program. Session participants will leave with an understanding of how Hands & Voices provides training to both their chapter's leadership as well as parents and professionals interested in supporting either their own child or a child they serve.

  • The conference participants will be able to name the two formalized training programs of Hands & Voices.
  • Conference participants will be able to identify the foundational values and program goals of both the ASTra - Educational Advocacy and Guide By Your Side Programs of Hands & Voices.
  • The conference participants will be able to list the training required for each Hands & Voices program and how each program is evaluated annually.
