How to Support Cohesion Between Family Based Organizations and EHDI
EHDI Programs and Family Based Organizations bring different and essential strengths to the important tasks of identifying and serving families of young children who are deaf or hard of hearing. While those differences may present challenges, it is possible to develop efficient, effective and harmonious partnership to the benefit of families. In this session, the audience will learn about three aspects of the collaboration between Oregon EHDI and Hands & Voices of Oregon: our contracts and agreements, data sharing, and relationship/trust-building efforts.
- List three defining areas that contribute to the success of FBO and EHDI program collaboration in Oregon.
- Describe ways in which both entities and families benefit from the collaboration.
- Summarize opportunities to develop and/or enhance a strong parent-serving organization and EHDI partnership in your state.

Heather Morrow-Almeida works in the Maternal and Child Health Section of the Center for Prevention and Health Promotion of the Oregon Health Authority as a Systems and Policy Analyst. Her portfolio includes a variety of programs and projects related to child health - including child injury prevention and serving as EHDI Coordinator. Prior to joining the Division of Public Health in Oregon, she completed the Public Health Prevention Service Fellowship with the CDC, during which she was assigned to Cowlitz County Health Department (CCHD) in Washington State for two years and spent a year in Atlanta working for the Division of TB Elimination and the Built Environment Team in the National Center for Environmental Health. Heather completed her Master in Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in the Maternal and Child Health Department.

Amanda Hvass

Amanda is a mother of three boys, one of which is Deaf plus. Having experienced the EHDI system as a parent, she now as a Guide By Your Side Coordinator leads the program and collaborates with professionals in the field. With special interest in collaboration, she works with the Oregon EHDI team, their Advisory Committee, Hands & Voices and her local school district to promote healthy connections and successful children. She holds a certification in Performance Coaching and working with teams for healthy outcomes within their organization or business.
