Advanced Bionics Lunch and Learn: How to promote self-advocacy in a young child’s life *by invitation only*

Embracing diversity, equity and inclusion helps children to engage in their world with curiosity, kindness and confidence. Have you considered how building self-advocacy skills for very young children who are deaf and hard of hearing contributes to visions for diversity, equity and inclusion? The best way to learn to learn about advocacy is to see it modeled by trusted adults. EI providers and Parents can partner to build confidence in learning how to foster self-advocacy from very early on. Join the discussion about advocacy and why it matters. Learn from lived examples. Find out ways to promote self-advocacy at home, during EI sessions, and at school. Learn actions to take with little ones.

  • Explain why it is critical that EI providers and Parents partner to teach self-advocacy skills early on
  • Apply goal setting steps using a Self-Determined Model of Instruction
  • List resources that can be used to promote self-advocacy learning in little ones with hearing loss
