Harnessing the Power of Language Techniques
The title of this poster is “Harnessing the Power of Language Techniques” and the presenter is Razi Zarchy, SLPD, CCC-SLP. This poster will include twelve easy-to-implement language techniques from the ASL at Home family-centered curriculum, to prepare providers to teach families these techniques - or to teach families directly - to enrich accessible language exposure at home.
I will present some foundations of parent coaching in early intervention to promote early, rapid language acquisition, including the evidence base supporting the use of facilitative language techniques. Then, I will teach twelve evidence-based techniques with hands-on practice opportunities. We will also discuss potential challenges and areas where families often struggle or find certain techniques difficult and suggest solutions.
Participants will leave this workshop with twelve new tools in their toolbox for family-centered language support.
- Implement visual-tactile and facilitative language techniques with young children
- Identify potential improvements in parents’ and caregivers’ child-directed language and recommend language techniques that will improve it
- Teach parents and caregivers to embed language techniques in their everyday routines
