Features of eHealth Platforms to Promote Hearing Technology Use in Children

The purpose of this research was to identify features of pediatric tele-audiology eHealth hearing technology platforms for young children with hearing loss and their families that promote device use in young children who use hearing technology. An exploratory, descriptive design was used to evaluate features of existing pediatric tele-audiology platforms for parents and audiologists to implement for young children. The study explored internet resources including hearing industry websites, for information related to specific eHealth platform features designed to support pediatric hearing devices currently available to audiologists and families. At least four major eHealth platforms designed to support young children and their families were identified and features will be discussed. Tele-audiology eHealth technology platforms for young children are available but limited in comparison to what may be available to older children and adults. Future research directions to move pediatric tele-audiology eHealth applications forward and to determine efficacy are outlined.

  • Identify tele-audiology eHealth platforms available to audiologists and parents
  • Describe applications of platforms for young children, age birth to five
  • Associate information to best pediatric hearing technology practices
