The Language Growth Chart: How Parents Can Track Bilingual Language Development in the First Three Years of Life

Parent involvement is one of the factors that impacts on-time language acquisition for Deaf children. As professionals who work with families, it is our responsibility to help parents understand their child’s current language levels. This includes teaching parents how to detect if there is a language gap, understand how a language gap can affect their development, and why effective language goals are critical to their child making progress. Families are a part of the team, working with us to close the gap. Join us as we discuss how the DRIP-EY’s Bilingual Language Growth Chart for parents can be used to share information with the parents and families you work with.

  • Participants will explain the purpose of the DRIP-EY protocol
  • Participants will list at least three categories of data depicted on the Bilingual Language Growth Chart
  • Participants will describe how the Bilingual Language Growth Chart is used to help parents understand the discrepancy between their child’s chronological age, language age, and the role that they play in ameliorating the language gap.
