Using Media and Music to Enhance the Therapeutic Experience
Last year in a similar workshop, this presentation looked at music videos that can be used as treatment interventions to facilitate change and encourage insight into power/control and violence. In an effort to expand upon that presentation, this workshop will also discuss music and videos that can be used to increase awareness about the impact of domestic violence on children and ways that music can be used to help clients continue to make changes after treatment. As before, this workshop will provide attendees with an opportunity to identify ways to use media more in treatment interventions. Brainstorming and sharing experiences with the implementation and use of media in treatment will be encouraged.
We are influenced by music all around us. Violence has been normalized and condoned in mainstream media, which perpetuates thinking patterns that may encourage violence or make it seem acceptable. This workshop will specifically focus on videos used to promote awareness of the impact of DV on children and using music/videos in a motivational way.
- Identify ways that music can be used to promote insight into how DV impacts children
- Identify ways that music can be used to motivate ongoing change
- Understand the impact of violence in popular music and be able to indentify ways to help implement music as an intervention

Craig Limb, LCSW has been working at Wasatch Mental Health since 2005. He graduated with his Master’s Degree from the University of Utah. He recently accepted a position as the supervisor of a First Episode Psychosis team at Wasatch Mental Health. Previous to that he worked as the Utah State Hospital Liaison, Bridge Team therapist, and Crisis Worker at Wasatch. He has also worked in AOP as a therapist for almost five years where he provided domestic violence treatment. He has also provided domestic violence treatment for the Family Abuse Center for Treatment (FACT) program in Salt Lake and Orem. He has been on State and local coalitions for domestic violence treatment and has presented at state and international conferences related to topics related to interpersonal violence treatment including emotional closeness and various treatment interventions.

Krista Limb, LCSW

Krista L. Limb, LCSW graduated with her Master’s Degree from Brigham Young University and currently works as a therapist for Insight Counseling and Consulting (private practice) located in Orem. In addition to her work as a therapist, she is also a contracted provider with Wasatch Mental Health where she completes PASRR evaluations. She also cares for two young boys at home. Prior to her current endeavors she worked full time in the Adult Outpatient department at Wasatch Mental Health where she provided domestic violence treatment. She has a fond love for people with disabilities and specializes in treatment with this population. She has presented in various local and international conferences on topics related to domestic violence treatment.
