"Well, this is complicated!" - Supporting Families with DHH Plus Children
Deaf and hard of hearing children with additional needs (also known as DHH Plus children) present unique challenges when it comes to serving them in the educational, medical, and social field. This panel will represent families from diverse backgrounds and help the audience connect with the needs and realities of DHH Plus families. Learning from these individuals will provide a deeper view into how to serve our EHDI families. Be prepared to laugh and cry as we share through honesty and vulnerability!
- Participants will learn 2 approaches to supporting families that have DHH Plus children.
- Participants will have exposure to the experience of DHH Plus parents through a panel presentation.
- 3. Audience will identify gaps within the system, to better serve DHH Plus children.

Amanda is a mother of three boys, including one who is DeafPlus. Having navigated the EHDI system as a parent, she served for eight years as Coordinator for Hands & Voices of Oregon. Today, she owns a consulting business, partnering with leadership teams to enhance collaboration and achieve healthy organizational outcomes. She also works with Hands & Voices and her local school district to support strong connections and successful outcomes for children. Amanda holds a certification in Performance Coaching and specializes in helping teams work more effectively together.
