The Relationship Between Risk Factors and Screening Outcomes in Young Children

The Marion Downs Center is a non-profit health clinic that provides a screening program for hearing, speech, language, and vision in both clinic and community settings. Data was analyzed to identify trends and the importance of intermittent childhood screening. Analyzed data will provide more information on the rate of kids who are at risk for hearing and/or vision difficulties in schools in the Denver, CO metro area that are corroborated or not corroborated by parent/teacher concern a and IFSP/IEPs to identify the validity of current protocols. This project will describe and identify screening protocols and current roadblocks to follow-up care.

  • Attendees will be able to Identify if parent or teacher concern is related to screening outcomes.
  • Attendees will better understand high risk factors and early childhood screening outcomes.
  • Attendees will learn about to importance of early childhood screening.

Sandra Gabbard is an Associate Professor of Audiology at the University of Colorado where she is the Coordinator of the Pediatric Audiology LEND MCHB training grant, which supports AuD students and post-doctoral audiologists to expand their expertise in pediatric audiology. In addition, Sandra is the CEO/President and audiologist at the Marion Downs Center, a non-profit community clinic which provides services in audiology, speech therapy, and more.
