Clear and Collaborative: Developing Parent-Friendly Videos in Minnesota

While Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) professionals understand EHDI terms and concepts, they can be challenging to understand for individuals outside of or entering the EHDI system of care. Terms such as “early intervention” may be unfamiliar and confusing to parents. This presentation will discuss a collaborative project between public health, parents of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, and community partners to develop a series of short videos for parents. The importance of involving parents and community partners, as well as the process for their involvement will be discussed. We will outline key steps from the idea concept to the final video production and lessons learned along the way. By providing short, easily digestible content for parents, we hope to increase their understanding of EHDI topics and increase adherence to the 1-3-6 EHDI goals.

  • Participants will be able to describe the methods used to develop videos on important EHDI topics, including how to engage parents and community partners.
  • Participants will be able to describe the importance of involving parents, individuals with lived experiences, and community partners in project planning and development.
  • Participants will be able to outline video project steps and components.
