Leveraging Health Information Systems to Minimize Lost-to-Follow-Up in Newborn Hearing Screening Programs

Newborn hearing screening programs are critical for early detection of hearing loss, but one of the significant challenges these programs face is the issue of lost-to-follow-up. The absence of effective tracking and coordination mechanisms can lead to missed opportunities for timely intervention, impacting developmental outcomes for affected infants. "Leveraging Health Information Systems to Minimize Lost-to-Follow-Up in Newborn Hearing Screening Programs" addresses this challenge by exploring how advanced health information systems can enhance follow-up processes. This presentation will delve into the integration of electronic health records (EHRs), data management tools, and tracking systems to improve communication and coordination between healthcare providers, families, and screening programs. Attendees will learn about innovative strategies for real-time monitoring, and data sharing that can significantly reduce lost-to-follow-up rates. This session aims to provide actionable insights for optimizing health information systems to ensure that every newborn receives the follow-up care they need, thereby improving early diagnosis and intervention outcomes.

  • Demonstrate how integrating electronic health records (EHRs) and specialized tracking systems can provide real-time monitoring of newborn hearing screening results and follow-up appointments.
  • Identify strategies for utilizing data management tools to streamline information sharing and follow-up processes, reducing gaps in care.
  • Learn about innovative strategies for real-time monitoring, and data sharing that can significantly reduce lost-to-follow-up rates.
