Family Support Success Through Shared PA Data System

In Pennsylvania, our Department of Health (DOH), Family Support Organization (FBO) Family Connections for Language and Learning (FCLL) and Early Intervention (EI) have been utilizing a shared database for an extended amount of time. We realize our unique level of sharing data over the years has positively impacted functioning of both the FBO, FCLL, DOH and improved rates of enrollment in Early Intervention. We believe that other states will learn what we share and the positive impact it has and consider doing additional hard work to establish data sharing or increase the amount and depth of data sharing within their state. Specific examples of what the FBO staff reviews before attempts to connect with families will be provided. There will also be discussion of how contacts are tailored to the specific family based upon the record review, including reading reports from the diagnostic audiological evaluation and notes attached to the record.

  • Provide examples of how use of a shared data system enhances initial outreach to families.
  • Identify additional information that could be shared within a state to increase participation in family support.
  • Outline the value of sharing family support notes with Department of Health employees.
