Enhancing the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention System to Improve 1-3-6 EHDI Benchmarks in New York
Abstract
The New York State Early Hearing Detection and Information System (NYEHDI-IS) is developed to integrate information from various data systems including vital records. NYEHDI-IS allows all birthing hospitals and providers to report results of hearing screenings, diagnostic evaluations, and early intervention referrals. Data collected from the integrated NYEHDI-IS allows the New York EHDI program to track 1-3-6 EHDI benchmarks and to make information available to providers who perform follow-ups for further hearing screening, diagnostic evaluation, and/or referrals. Multiple phases of enhancements have been made in NYEHDI-IS. The goals of this poster are to: 1) Identify core data components of the NYEHDI-IS; 2) explore ways through which the NYEHDI-IS enhancements are designed to improve system efficiency, functionality, data quality, data management, follow-up, and tracking; and 3) highlight how the NYEHDI-IS enhancements have resulted in improved 1-3-6 EHDI benchmarks in New York State.
